HOME INSPECTors Mailing List
The HOMEINSPECT Mailing List is for Home Inspectors to share and exchange information about the Home Inspection Business of North America.
If you are not familiar with Mailing lists, this is how it works. When a person sends a message to the list, all people on the list receive the message in their email. Anyone interested can reply to the message, that reply also goes to all on the list. From there a discussion may proceed, or just end. If you do not wish to reply to the message, you do not have to, just file the message or delete it.
Whether you participate or not, everyone can learn from reading the messages and discussions that go on. There are some simple rules to keep the discussions focused and eliminate advertising and junk mail for the benefit of the list. You can remove yourself from the list at any time you choose.
.
As an alternative or as well, you can visit the web based Open Forum, Bulletin
Board to post messages and chat with each other. Go to HomeInspect Open Forum

.
The following is a copy of a message sent to the list which indicates the value of this FORUM .

Thanks to all of you who responded to my fire question yesterday. That's exactly how this forum should operate.
I learned some new stuff, and I was able to offer better and more complete information to my clients. This entire exercise over the past 24 hours has raised the respectability level of Home Inspectors to a new high in my area. Three Realtors, the vendors, the buyers, and all the families of all parties were impressed with our results. Not everybody is happy, but they are impressed.
Thanks much.

The newspaper contains hundreds of articles and advertisements; chances are you've learned to skim your local newspaper, so that you only stop to read the articles that are of interest to you. Sometimes you decide after two or three sentences that you really aren't interested in that story. Just hit delete on the topics that aren't interesting to you. That way those who want to discuss issues can do so, and those who aren't interested can skip them. It is a marvelous system.
1. All messages must have a "subject" which indicates what the message is about [so a person that has not much time can pick those messages that are of interest].
2. All messages must be focused on home inspection information exchange. A small amount of general chat and or humor may be added to a message. Messages with no direct contribution to home inspection information exchange IS PROHIBITED. Reread you message before sending. If it does not have EDUCATIONAL content for all, do not send it.
3 No "flaming" arguing, foul language or making of derogatory remarks shall be permitted. The rules of professional conduct apply equally to this list.
4. Questions, comments or complaints about the list for the list owner including a request to be removed from the list must be made directly to the list owner at rod@clear-lake.com
5. Only a small amount of the original message should be left with a reply and the rest be cut out. Your comments should be added ON TOP.
6. If you are not sure if something is suitable for the list, contact the list owner and get prior approval.
7. If there is a problem with your email address, an error message goes to the list owner. After a couple of days, the address is removed from the list. If you find you have stopped getting messages, this is probably what happened. Just send a message to the list owner when the problem has been resolved and you will be added back on.
8. Please do not send messages like "I agree". If everyone agreeing with a statement did this, there could be over 100 messages saying "I agree" and this would clog up members email.
9. Do not post more than one message per day on a subject and no more than 4 messages total per day. Allow others to give their comments and this will avoid clogging the board with one subject.
10. Subjects may only be discussed for a maximum of 30 days. After that, no messages on that subject may be posted for at least 14 days. This applies especially to discussion on a professional association.
11. Advertising is not permitted on this list. If a members has a new or updated service that is useful to other members, they may announce it ONE TIME. Requests for further information must be answered off the list privately. Three lines of advertising may be added to messages as a signature. The 3 lines includes names, addresses, phone numbers etc. More than this is considered non permitted advertising.
12. The list owner reserves the right to remove any member from the list at any time for any reason.
13. The subject of OZONE, IAQ, Alpine is not a Home Inspection topic and must not be discussed on this forum.

Originally I belonged to another list. I did not like the way it was run. Three out of 4 messages were complaints, advertising or jokes, not that I mind humor, I love it but in its place. Instead of adding myself to the complainers, I decided to start my own list, dedicated to information exchange for home inspectors.
HOMEINSPECT is a closed list. I control who is added for security reasons only. This adds a lot of work for me but it has been worth it. As the list grows, I have some plans to improve it. I am the list owner. That means I own the name. Anyone who does not like how I set up the list, is welcome to start there own, I encourage it, I will even help you.
I have learned that you cannot please everyone. The above set of rules are designed to please the majority and I ask that all members respect them. Blatant deviation will cause me to take action, preferably by friendly reminder, but if necessary by firm request or as a last resort removal from the list. I have no control over the messages that go on the list. It is totally automatic and I could not stop a message going out even if I wanted to. If you have a comment for me, please send a personal email to me, not the list. I welcome your personal messages.
